At 3:00 p.m. on September 19, the 2004 International Juyong Guan Great Wall Climbing Competition was held at the Beijing Juyong Guan Great Wall on a clear autumn day. This competition received ardent support from Tianjin Tiens Group Co., Ltd. The general manager of TIENS International Culture & Media Group and manager of Public Relations & External Affairs Department attended the opening ceremony.

In August, Chinese athletes performed well in the Athens Olympic Games. This greatly boosted the morale of the entire Chinese nation. In order to further strengthen the Olympic spirit, East Asia Sports Development Center of IAAF, Sports Industrial Federation held this competition with Tiens Group and other companies as sponsors. The huge banners of Tiens Group were conspicuous at the starting point at the north pavilion of Juyong Guan and on the main roads leading to Juyong Guan Great Wall and Badaling Great Wall.

Juyong Guan is a famous scenic spot of the Great Wall, and “Green Jade at Juyong” is one of the eight showplaces in Beijing. The participants climbed the 4,000-meter-long ring-like Great Wall, by running or walking. The competition challenged all participants physically and mentally, while giving the participants a chance to appreciate a grand landscape.

Foreign friends from all corners of the earth came to participate in the competition, gathering at the foot of the session of the ancient Great Wall to pursue the Olympic spirit of “faster, higher and stronger.”
