RMB12 Million Donated to China Education Development Foundation

In June 2007, China Education Development Foundation and Tiens Group cooperatively set up the “Li Jinyuan Education Financial Support Plan of the China Education Development Foundation”. The total amount of such financial support plan is RMB12 million, which is planned to be donated by Tiens Group in three equal installments to China Education Development Foundation during the period of three years from 2007 to 2009 (i.e. donating RMB4 million each year). And part of the fund is used to assist excellent students with financial difficulty studying in Tianshi College and in other Tianjin colleges and universities to complete their student career. Meanwhile, the fund shall also be used to support the students with financial difficulty studying in primary and middle schools and to help construct primary and middle schools in the poverty-stricken areas and launch other commonweal education projects.

In 1995, Mr. Li Jinyuan established the Tiens Group Co., Ltd. in Tianjin. Today, Tiens Group has become a multinational enterprise group integrating industrial capital, commercial capital and financial capital into itself and engaging in such business fields as retails, tourism, finance, international trade and e-business. Tiens Group has been adhering to the public welfare concept of “resulting from the society and serving the society”, and incumbent on assuming social responsibilities of the enterprise.Up till now, TIENS’ investment in charities and public welfares has totaled RMB1.06 billion, and most of it was used for education.

Mr. Li Jinyuan has always been concerned with and provided supports to the development of education in China and hopes to arouse the whole society’s concerns on the students from poor families, and then makes a contribution to Chinese educational and charity undertakings.

Press Conference on the China Education Development Foundation Li Jinyuan Sponsorship SchemeOn July 31, 2007, Tiens Group held a ceremonious charity donation press conference in the Hendersan Center, the Beijing headquarter of TIENS.

President Li Jinyuan donated RMB12 million to the China Education Development Foundation, marking the official inauguration of the “China Education Development Foundation-Li Jinyuan Education Sponsorship Scheme”. President Li Jinyuan, Mr. Shi Yaochu, Deputy Secretary-general of the China Education Development Foundation, Mr. Chen Xiyuan and Mr. Qin Xianbao, Division Chiefs of the Planning Division of Tianjin Education Commission and Mr. Sun Ming, President of Tianshi College were present at the press conference.

Major media present at the press conference include: plane media such as People’s Daily, Guang Ming Daily, Beijing Daily, Beijing Evening News, Newspaper of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Today Evening News, and some TV media such as CCTV International Channel, News Channel and China Education TV etc. The aforesaid media will conduct in-depth coverage on the “China Education Development Foundation Li Jinyuan Education Sponsorship Scheme” one after another.

Students in western regions of China were deprived of education because of poverty, and schools in western areas are facing the dilemma of closing-down due to insufficient funding. Having been informed of the situation, Mr. Li Jinyuan got seriously anxious about these children. In order to ensure that students in western areas can receive standard schooling and to help the people in western areas to be lifted out of poverty and to achieve a rapid economic development for the nation, Mr. Li Jinyuan has made donations on several occasions to students in western areas and dedicated himself to the development of western education. His commitment went beyond the boundary of his motherland and reached out to the whole world, from Sinkiang to Tibet, and from “Tianshi BoAi Primary Schools” to “TIENS West Talent Program”. This far, Mr. Li Jinyuan has donated a total of RMB1,060,000,000 in charity and public welfare undertakings.

The inauguration of the “China Education Development Foundation Li Jinyuan Education Sponsorship Scheme” is another leap-forward development for the education cause supported by Mr. Li. The total amount of the sponsorship scheme is RMB12 million. During the three years between 2007 and 2009, Tiens Group will donate RMB4 million, annually, to the China Education Development Foundation. The purpose is to help outstanding students from poor families to study at the TIENS Technical College and other higher institutions to complete their education.

At the press conference, President Li Jinyuan handed over a check worth of RMB12 million to Mr. Chen Xiyuan, Deputy Secretary-general of the Education Development Foundation. “I am obliged to help poor students. However, assistance I and my company have to offer is limited in scale; I hope that the whole society will pay sufficient attention to the issue and reach out to help those poor students. As long as everybody is entitled to standard education, the public can live and work in peace and contentment, therefore blessing the country with lasting peace and stability as well as prosperity.” President Li Jinyuan’s speech was favorably received by his audiences.

Mr. Shi Yaochu, Deputy Secretary-general of China’s Education Development Foundation give a speech on behalf of Mr. Zhang Baoqing, the president of the Foundation, and expressed high respects and hearty appreciations for Mr. Li Jinyuan’s charitable undertaken for the common good. He also promised a satisfactory implementation of the sponsorship scheme, donations of which will be used for students in genuine needs. Some media also arranged special interviews with President Li after the press conference.

President Li present at the USA Independence Day Celebration

On the evening of , organized by the US Embassy in China. Also present at the grand ceremony were relevant government figures, foreign ambassadors and celebrities from various walks of life.

As one of the distinguished guests, Mr. Li was welcomed with a warm reception ever since his entrance into the ceremonial hall. He was kept company both by Mr. Barry I Friedman and Mr. Frank Joseph, the commercial counselor and commercial officer from the U.S. Embassy.

The evening celebration was officially opened with a speech by US. Ambassador, Mr. Clark T. Randt Jr, The main theme, apart from the commemoration of the Independence Day and the furtherance of international communications, revolved around American football, which was reflected in the overall venue decoration and event arrangements. In addition, guests and participants at the ceremony were entertained with performances by cheer leaders from well-known US Football teams invited by the sponsor.

Recommended by embassy officials, Mr. Li Jinyuan was received by the US Ambassador, Mr. Clark T. Randt Jr., followed by a friendly exchange of greetings and a pleasant conversation. Officials from the US Embassy expressed great interest in Tiens Group’s decision to increase its circulation volume on the “main board” market of the United States. (Notes: Mr. Clark T. Randt Jr. was nominated by US president George W. Bush as the US Ambassador to China on April 30, 2001. He arrived at Beijing on July 23, 2001 and has remained the longest serving US Ambassador to China.)

At 7:30 pm, the guests left one after another, and the celebration eventually came to an end against a background of classic music.
